Steve Constable, Senior Pastor

stevefamcrop2.jpgSteve was born and raised in England. After becoming a Christian in his early teens, Steve got involved in Christian student ministry in school and then university. In the mid-80’s he arrived in the US pursuing his dream of becoming a scholar of Shakespeare and also pursuing his American girlfriend whom he’d met on her junior year abroad from Georgetown University. Four years into graduate school, and helping with the local InterVarsity chapter, Steve and his former-girlfriend now-wife, Barb, concluded that Shakespeare should be left to greater mortals and that God was calling them to seminary (Trinity Evangelical) in Chicago. In 1992 Steve graduated from seminary, was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (PCA) and began serving a church in suburban Chicago as its first associate pastor. In the late 90’s Steve and Barb moved back to the UK and served for a brief stint as pastor at the International Presbyterian Church in London. From there they returned to a PCA church in rural upstate New York until 2004 when they moved to Richmond to serve at Stony Point. Along the way the Constables had a little Constabulary – four children, Ben (14), Chrissy (12), Johnny (10) and Emma (2). Steve serves Stony Point as its senior pastor – a calling which he, by his own admission, would be quite incapable of were it not for Barb.

Frank Crane, Minister of Pastoral Care

p1010010_1.jpgFrank was born in 1941 to missionary parents and spent most of his childhood and youth in Chile, South America. He went to Covenant College (class of ’63) and then Covenant Seminary (class of ’67) at a time when both were at the current seminary campus in St.Louis. Besides studying, Frank helped establish Covenant’s first soccer team and was editor of the year book. It was during college that he met Joy Preston and they were married in January, 1964. Upon graduating from seminary, Frank was called to the pulpit of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Newburgh, New York which he served for five years. Westminster was an aging congregation with a rich heritage having been founded in 1855. During Frank’s years the congregation grew and reached out to the changing inner city community. In 1972 the Cranes accepted a call to Westminster Presbyterian Church in Muncie, Indiana. This church is across the street from Ball State University and had a thriving student ministry in cooperation with the Navigators, Campus Crusade and Intervarsity.

After seven years of happy and fruitful ministry in Muncie, the Cranes (now with four children in tow: Ben, Gretchen, Adele and Charlotte) came to Stony Point in 1979. Frank has enjoyed a long and fruitful pastorate developing over that time a genuine appreciation for the gifts the Lord has distributed among his people at Stony Point. With other community leaders he participated in founding the Richmond Pregnancy Resource Center. Also during his tenure Stony Point has birthed two congregations: All Saints Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1982 and West End Presbyterian Church ten years later. Since the early 90s Frank has been heavily involved in mission trips first to Prague, Czech Republic and then to Uganda. After twenty five years at Stony Point Frank looks back and finds his greatest satisfaction in faithfully pastoring a growing congregation. In 2007 Frank gratefully accepted the call of the Session to continue on as Assistant Pastor with a title of Minister of Pastoral Care. This move made room for Senior Pastor Steve Constable to lead Stony Point into the future. Frank continues full time focusing on counseling, small groups, Christian education and missions. His personal ministry motto captures what inspires and directs his life: All God’s Word For All God’s People – All God’s People Into All God’s World.

Michael Bryant, Coordinator of Children’s & Youth Ministries

p1010012_1.jpgMichael was born in Chapel Hill, NC, raised in Virginia Beach, earned a Degree in Elementary Education at Virginia Tech, taught fourth grade and worked at a small ski resort in rural southwest Virginia before moving to Richmond in 1981 to play in a rock ‘n roll band. He met his wife in the eighth grade, fell in love with her in the ninth, and married her in 1977, while still in college. Since then, they have been busy raising their four children. Zack has graduated from JMU, taken a wife of his own, and is working as a graphic designer. Megan is finishing up her Master’s Degree in Teaching at UVA, looking for a teaching job, and hoping to teach in Uganda someday. Josh is studying Computer Science at JMU. Anna is in the 10th grade at Hermitage High School and just got her driver’s license. The Bryant family joined SPC in 1994.

After being a teacher and rock star, Michael made sandwiches at Stuffy’s Subs for almost two decades. He became “Mr. B” in 1999 when he came on staff at SPC as the Coordinator of Youth and Children’s Ministries. His family-based vision for ministry to youth and children aims to mobilize every mature-Christian-adult at Stony Point, according to their gifts, in loving service to our kids and their friends. Mrs. Bryant says that his gifts in teaching, skiing, playing music, and making a tasty sandwich give him all the basic skills needed for being a cool youth dude.

Lynn Liles, Administrative Assistant

Lynn Liles was born and raised in Norfolk, where she graduated from high school. She then came to Richmond to study at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), majoring in interior design graduating in ’74. Following graduation, she worked as an interior designer in residential, commercial and healthcare design, as well as facility planning. Working with various design firms, a furniture dealership, a bank, an architect and a developer, she was able to utilize her design degree and expanded her interests in business and administrative roles which enriched her expertise. In 2003, an opening as administrative assistant presented itself at SPC. She felt called and left her job and started working at Stony Point. She still uses her many talents to better the church as do each of the staff members.

She has two children Austin and Leigh, who she cares for deeply and loves spending time with. She has been a contributing member of this church since1983. She considers the congregation here her family, which made the job transition easy.
