Confession should be a regular part of our lives, shouldn’t it?! Whether we feel like it or not, as soon as a sin is on our conscience, we must bring it before God. Why? Well, because if I hold out on God, it’s as if I’m saying mercy isn’t the way between us - my rightness is. We must confess specifically and with seriousness about being accountable to others. We see for sin for what it is, yes, but lest it crush us – as someone once said – for every look at sin, give ten looks at Christ. Confess secret sins to God and private sins to the individual privately. In sins of word and deed against others, go and confess them. But if you’ve been jealous or lustful, it doesn’t help to turn up on their doorstep and tell them so.
