Galatians 5:26 – 6:5 ~ Series: Finding Our Identity in the Gospel ~ January 17, 2010
There is a burden we can’t carry for other people – like Frodo with his ring – we each, Paul is saying, have a responsibility to carry our own burden, literally our own back pack up the mountain. … And if you’re carrying that load – it is exceedingly heavy – it’s like Marley’s chain in Christmas Carol forged link by link and ponderously heavy. And if you try to drag it through this life and across the river into death, it will sink you. The Bible says that if you let Christ carry that weight – let him pay for it – it becomes light and easy, because it’s a chain now that pulls you to Him rather than pulling you down. Each should carry his own load.
