Exodus 18:5 – 27 ~ Series: A Way Through the Wilderness – May 17, 2009
It’s significant that the big story of the ancient world – Oedipus – was about a son who, not knowing his parents, inadvertently takes their place and destroys them. But for us, from that other ancient story, this is what heals: that a Son who knew His Father and His Father’s love didn’t take His place, but submitted to Him and became, in His way, like Oedipus, a curse. But a curse by which all our worst sins and shames – the likes of which Oedipus couldn’t look at his own life – are covered at last and we are reclaimed.
