Exodus 16:2 – 20 ~ Series: A Way Through the Wilderness ~ May 10, 2009
“If you like, it’s the Stockholm Syndrome of spirituality – we’d rather have what has imprisoned us, as screwed up or as demanding as it may be we’d rather stay in our familiar cell even though the bars and the bricks have been blown away, we¹d rather have the scraps it throws us than bear to risk going without it in hopes of something better. That’s what grumbling expresses, it’s what’s at its source: exhaustion, fear, hopelessness and above all a kind of functional idolatry – running from the real God.”
